“Teaching Championship Technique” Dan Vidlak and Matt Gentry are excited to team up and provide high-caliber wrestling instruction to Oregon youth in two great Oregon wrestling camps. This camp focuses on folkstyle wrestling and will provide sound technique in all three wrestling positions- top, bottom, and neutral. A popular portion of past camps has been taking time to talk about the mental aspects of wrestling, including goal setting, visualization, pre and post match routines, weight cutting, and the cross-over of wrestling to academics and life skills. Matt currently serves as an assistant coach at Stanford University and will primarily be running the technique/intensive camp the same way he coaches his collegiate athletes. Current college wrestlers will also be helping with camp and showing some of their favorite techniques as well as wrestling with campers. They are very popular with young wrestlers, and serve as role models and an example of what it takes to succeed at the collegiate levels.
Camp this year will be broken up by age/skill level. Generally young or new wrestlers to the sport will attend the kids/beginner camp in the morning only. High school aged or more advanced wrestlers should attend the technique/intensive camp all day as there will be more focus and intensity. You may have heard the phrase, “Summer wrestling makes winter Champions” and these two Oregon Wrestling Camps are a great opportunity for a young wrestler of any skill level to learn with some of the best wrestling coaches around and have fun in the process.
The Vidlak Gentry Wrestling Camps are popular for High School Teams from parts of Northern California, Southern Oregon, Central Oregon, Portland, Idaho, and Washington. The wrestling camps are a great off-season bonding time. Many teams choose to camp outdoors and participate in white water rafting, paintballing, and other fun activities after camp. Coaches are encouraged to contact Matt Gentry or Dan Vidlak for accommodations and local activities
Cost for camp is $50 for the kids/beginner camp and $150 for the Technique/Intensive Camp. A team discount of $25 is offered for teams who register 5 or more wrestlers from the same school at the same time. These costs include instruction and a Vidlak-Gentry Wrestling camp t-shirt . We will also be filming all technique sessions and selling a camp DVD for $25. The DVD is a valuable tool that you can share with teammates or coaches, as well as use for yourself as a reminder next fall for what you learned in camp over the summer.
Workout gear and wrestling shoes, running shoes, lunch or lunch money, and an extra t-shirt should be brought every day.
